Tips for climbing from the Fujinomiya route and reaching the summit safely.
Location of Munatsuki Sanso
Munatsuki Sanso is the second-highest mountain hut in Japan. Located at the 9.5th station on the Fujinomiya Trail, it’s a 40-minute walk to the summit (Okumiya shrine) and about a 60-minute walk to Kengamine, the highest point in Japan.

Via Mizugatsuka Park (Mandatory during restriction period)

- From Shin-Tomei Shin-Fuji IC: ~35 mins (via Nishifuji Road)
- From Tomei Gotemba IC: ~40 mins (via Skyline)
- From Tomei Susono IC: ~30 mins (via Minami-Fuji Evergreen Line)
Private vehicle restrictions apply during climbing season (July 10–Sept 10).
General parking at the 5th station is closed. Use the shuttle bus from Mizugatsuka Park.

By Train
JR Tokaido Shinkansen Shin-Fuji Station (Recommended)
- ~1 hr from Tokyo, ~2 hrs from Shin-Osaka. ~2 hr 15 mins by bus to 5th station.
JR Tokaido Line Fuji Station
- ~1 hr 20 mins from Tokyo. Transfer to bus via Fujinomiya Station.
JR Minobu Line Fujinomiya Station
- Convenient from Shizuoka. Bus terminal station (~2 hrs to 5th station).

- Tickets cannot be purchased on the bus. Buy in advance at the station ticket office.

Elevation of Major Huts
Characteristics: The shortest route to the summit but steep. Climbs 1,312m over 5km. Major huts are located as listed.
Important Notes
Altitude Sickness
Risk of altitude sickness increases above 3,000m. Please rest and hydrate properly.
Temperature
There is a temperature difference of over 15°C between the trailhead and the summit. Cold weather gear is essential.
Hydration
At high altitudes, it is harder to feel thirst. Please hydrate frequently.
Weather
Weather in the mountains changes rapidly. Rain gear is mandatory. In bad weather, prioritize descending.
Time Management
We recommend starting your descent by 2:00 PM. Descending after sunset is dangerous.
Communication
Cell phone signal may be unavailable in some areas. Be sure to share your climbing plan with someone.
